D’Argento Hits Them For Six

Six winners in six days for Bowness Stud’s G1 Rosehill Guineas winner D’Argento have put his next crop of yearlings firmly in the spotlight ahead of the 2027 sales.

With ten stakes performers to his credit including last season’s back-to-back Listed winner Ladies Pro (below), who looks to head towards the lucrative Ascot Summer carnival, recent results indicate that there are some exciting prospects coming through.

“These results are coming at a good time as we look towards next year’s yearling sales. They give buyers more examples of what D’Argento’s progeny can do on the track, and we’re looking forward to presenting his next crop,” said Bowness Stud’s James Daly.

Kicking off last Wednesday with a double, promising 3yo filly Nolabell streeted clear at Strathalbyn for Aaron Bain and Ned Taylor to break her maiden by more than five lengths at just her third start.

Having made her debut at black type level at 2, connections clearly have a strong opinion of the Magic Millions Adelaide yearling sale graduate and she looks one with a bright future.

Later that day, 4yo Leading Agility recorded his third win from his last five starts in Hong Kong, with the Danny Shum trained gelding leading throughout over 1200m to score by a length and a half.

Hong Kong has been a happy hunting ground for the progeny of D’Argento with four of his six runners having recorded success.

“Hong Kong has been a real highlight for D’Argento. To have four winners from just six runners there is a really pleasing result, and Leading Agility is doing a great job flying the flag.”

Danielle Seib’s Due Calzini was one of the first winners for D’Argento and is still going strong this season at 5, scoring in commanding fashion over 1600m at Canberra on Friday, to win the TAB Federal Tony Campbell Memorial Cup.

Two days later the Aiden St Vincent’s Bobbiwaa became a new winner for D’Argento, coming from behind the leaders to charge through a gap late to score at Port Macquarie.

Racing on Monday saw a double for D’Argento with Jason Warren’s Off’n’gawn appreciating the step up to 2000m for the first time.

Having settled in second position, the Bowness Stud bred galloper improved off a last start third to pull clear for a commanding two and a quarter length win (below), to be the second new winner for his sire in as many days.

Just 20 minutes later, Gary Nickson’s consistent mare Pearler recorded her third win from her last four starts, remaining unbeaten at Queanbeyan where she has won all four of her starts at the track.

While six winners in six days was a brilliant record for the grey stallion, it’s worth noting that a further ten runners finished either second or third over the same time frame.

“It’s been a terrific six days for D’Argento. To have six winners, including two new winners, is very encouraging, and there’s been plenty of depth behind those results with another ten runners finishing second or third.”

“What’s particularly pleasing is the mix of promising young horses coming through and established performers continuing to win. Nolabell was very impressive breaking her maiden, while horses like Leading Agility and Pearler are putting together really consistent records.”

James and Joss Daly’s Bowness Stud will offer 19 yearlings by D’Argento at January’s Magic Millions yearling sale across Book 1 and 2, so make sure you keep an eye out for the release of the catalogue in the coming weeks.
