Japanese Sale Results Brings Further Attention On Bowness

Having foaled, raised and yearling sale prepared both Funstar (Adelaide) and her half-sister Youngstar (High Chaparral), with the pair going on to claim the G1 ATC Flight Stakes and the G1 Queensland Oaks respectively, the recent results of the JRA Weanling and Yearling sale highlights what an outstanding grounding these two have received.

One their racing careers were over, Youngstar was sold via the Inglis Chairman’s Sale in 2020 for $1.4million and Funstar from 2021 Inglis Digital July for $2.7million, both to Mr Katsumi Yoshida.

The yearling session of the 2026 JRHA Select Sale was held at Northen Horse Park in Japan on Monday and the top seller was a colt (pictured above) from the first crop of Equinox out of Australian-bred Youngstar.

Offered by Northern Farm and purchased by Danox Co. Ltd, the colt fetched 420,000,000yen (A$3.7m) and is a half-brother to G2 winner Eri King, who has also been G1 placed.

The next day, it was time for the foals, where the third highest priced seller was Funstar’s colt foal by Equinox making 310,000,000yen (A$2.7million) when bought by Danox Co Ltd, the same purchaser that secured the Equinox yearling colt from her half-sister Youngstar for 420,000,000yen (A$3.7million).
