D'Argento off to an ideal start at stud

Recently released industry statistics supplied by the Australian Stud Book confirm that D’Argento, Bowness Stud’s first season sire of 2020, is already tracking favourably for a long and successful stud career.

The exciting addition to our stallion roster was confirmed as covering 152 mares in his debut season, placing D’Argento in the top-30 stallions used by domestic broodmare owners on a national level during the previous breeding season.

D’Argento also compared very favourably with his fellow freshman sires of 2020 when amongst a half-dozen of last season’s newcomers to have covered 150-plus mares. These include the likes of Yes Yes Yes (205), Zousain (188), Brutal (177) and Pierata (168) — all of which were located in the Hunter Valley.

Further illustrating the success of D’Argento’s successful launch in 2020 is the fact that the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas winner covered a greater number of mares than Exceedance (142), Castelvecchio (141), Alabama Express (141) and Microphone (117), four other very significant Group 1 winners recruited to the national stallion ranks last year.

This should all augur well for D’Argento and the breeders who continue to support him over the next few seasons, as their stock will hopefully follow in the footsteps a first-crop which has laid the foundations for the exciting Bowness Stud sire.

One other aspect of the Australian Stud Book report which shouldn't escape mention is the fact that D’Argento’s own sire So You Think (NZ) was the heaviest supported stallion in Australia of 2020. The hugely successful racehorse and sire served no fewer than 261 mares at an advertised service fee of $38,500 (inc. GST).

The extraordinary volume of support received by So You Think (NZ) is a clear indication of his current popularly with local broodmare owners, and of the fact that the High Chaparral (Ire) branch of the Sadler’s Wells sireline continues to go from strength-to-strength in this region of the thoroughbred world.
