Bowness graduate scores again in Hong Kong
If the 2017/18 racing season wasn’t already going well for Bowness Stud graduates, the emergence of Zero Hedge on the Hong Kong racing circuit is adding further credence to the stud’s growing reputation.
A son of Medaglia d’Oro, Zero Hedge recorded his fourth victory from 13 starts in Hong Kong when wining at Happy Valley at the beginning of the month. Trained by John Size and ridden to his latest success by Joao Moreira, the 4-year-old showed brilliant speed to race right on the pace before coming away from his rivals in the straight to score by a couple of lengths.
Moreira was quoted as saying after the win: “He does nothing wrong, he’s a pretty straightforward horse. Today he had a beautiful run in front. The other horse came and gave him a challenge, but when we straightened up he was full of himself and just ran away.”
Zero Hedge is now a three-time winner at Happy Valley, having initially opened up his winning account with a debut success at Sha Tin during the 2016/17 racing season. His four wins have generated over HK$2.6 million in stakes. Moreover, the manner of his latest victory augurs well for his continued rise through the classes.
Zero Hedge was bred by Bowness Stud and sold for $550,000 at the 2015 Australian Easter Yearling Sale. He hails from a tremendously rapid family that features the very notable stakes winners Karuta Queen (MVRC Red Anchor S.-G3), Card Queen (VATC Blue Diamond Pre.-G3) and Vain Queen (VRC GH Mumm S.-G3).
Zero Hedge is the latest graduate of Bowness Stud to make its mark during a period which has also seen the rise and rise of Trapeze Artist, Youngstar, Think Bleue and others. Their combined success is a wonderful reflection on stud principal John North and his team.
