Trapeze Artist world’s highest rated sprinter
The exceptional $2.5 million T.J. Smith Stakes (G1) victory of Vieira Racing’s Trapeze Artist has earned the outstanding 3-year-old the recognition of being the highest rated sprinter on the LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings (1 Jan 2018-8 Apr 2018).
An assessment made under the auspices of The International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) by racing officials and handicappers representing the five continents, the LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings comprises the elite-of-the-elite and sees the name of Trapeze Artist alongside winners of this planet’s premier events so far contested in 2018.
Trapeze Artist’s exhilarating victory on Day 1 of The Championship earned the Snitzel colt a rating figure of 123, two points superior to Redkirk Warrior (121) — winner of both the VRC Lightning Stakes (G1) and Newmarket Handicap (G1) during the same period. Next highest rated sprinter on 119 is Hong Kong-based DB Pin, winner of The Centenary Sprint Cup (G1) at Sha Tin in January.
Trapeze Artist was put into some rarefied company with his 123 assessment. Also rated on the same figure are the likes of US$10 million Dubai World Cup (G1) winner Thunder Snow and our very own $3 million Doncaster Mile (G1) winner Happy Clapper. Rated inferior are rising international stars Time Warp (120), Beauty Generation (119), Kementari (119), Werther (119) etc.
On the more local front, only the great Chautauqua realised the same 123 rating figure received by Trapeze Artist during the whole of 2017.
